Hi, Elfhild! It is a shame that this sub-forum is empty. Could you, please, post links to your stories - I know you have many and they are under different pennames, aren't they? Agan

Agan, I created this forum so that I could post announcements, but I haven't uploaded anything lately to any of the archives. Currently, all of my stories are located on OSA: www.openscrolls.net/fanfic/authors/stories.php?no=2639I am considering putting some of them up at Henneth Annun, LOTR Fanfiction, or Tolkien Fanfiction. I'll post the links here if I do. I also have two drabbles on Fanfiction.net (These are also on OSA) - www.fanfiction.net/~angmarselfhildI have considered removing them because I don't really like the ambiance of FF.net. There are too many people on there who are filled with hate and spite. They attack other writers with almost religious fervor, some even having "crusades" to rid the archive of what they consider as inferior stories. I know that a lot of the writers there are young and inexperienced and their stories are a bit juvenile for adult readers, but I think it's cruel to attack kids (I'm talking brutally attack here, not constructive criticism) who just want to write about their favorite characters. If a person doesn't like a story, they should remember there's a big red X at the upper right corner - they should click that and then read something they like better.

I know what you mean, Elfhild. On fanfiction.net many people are just nasty. Often they are quite right in disliking the stories, but really do poor kids who write Suefics deserve this venom and spite? In your case, though, they really had nothing to say - your drabbles are wonderfully written and quite original. What they did say was plain incorrect. This last Celegorm dude reviewing "Thirsty" wrote: Well, there isn't a single quote describing Leggy's hair color. Thanks for posting the links! Agan

When I considered leaving FF.net, I didn't really have Celegorm's comments in mind. I was more appalled by some of the forums on there. These fanfiction fanatics create boards where they do nothing but slam other peoples' stories and attempt to harass them to the point that they delete their stories and leave FF.net. Their motivation: to purge the archive of what they consider "bad fanfiction." I don't know how old these people are, but their excess of free time seems to imply that they must be pretty young. If all belittling people is the only way they can think to fill their time, then they seriously need to get off the computer and do something productive.
I was reading one post where this lady was complaining about the mean spiritedness so rampant on the site. She said that her daughter, who had autism, had some stories posted there, and the critics hit her with so many flames that the poor girl was horribly shaken. Of course, in the offline world where people have more reasonable opinions of literature, the girl's English teacher and fellow classmates really liked her stories, and the girl got fairly good grades. Go figure. In retaliation to this post, the flamers started criticizing the woman's parenting abilities, insulting her and calling her names, even telling her that she was a horrible mother for even allowing such a sensitive child to go online. Of course, if this girl had posted on a writing forum, whether it was for teens or a mixed audience of teens and adults, they would have been supportive and encouraging, especially considering the fact she had autism. I've been on many writing forums and the people there are almost always nice.
Now, there's no way of knowing whether this lady's story is true or not (after all, this is the internet, and anyone make up any kind of story). The woman could have been the real author of the stories, and made up the tale about the autistic daughter in an attempt to make the critics feel guilty. Whether she was telling the truth or lying, though, I have no doubt that something like this could really happen on FF.net, and HAS happened, considering all the nasty people there.
I think the Professor would be horrified that these fans of his works are treating other fans so cruelly. The "deplorable cultus," he would call them, I am sure, and compare these petty little trollers to orcs. If they like Tolkien's world so well, then maybe they should consider adopting some of the values that LOTR extolled (friendship, honor, pity, mercy, compassion, kindness, love of land and fellow man, etc.).
In regard to Legolas - personally, I think he had blond hair, like his father. Personally, I think that fanfiction writers obsess too much on hair colors and physical descriptions.

I had a devil of a time with that site. Maybe we should have a story archive here, too.
