In the interest of scientific research and intellectual enlightenment, I hereby humbly submit the stinkhorn mushroom, which I believe is the mushroom depicted in the second painting. Here it is shown along with several immature specimens, which are known as "witch eggs." In medieval times, the stinkhorn was reputed to be useful as both a cure for gout and a love potion.  The shroom at the bottom is phallus impudicus. The young ones are also edible. |
