I'm trying to figure out how frequently The Circles site goes down.

For some reason, Book Six had the wrong index page. I'm not sure whose fault that was. It was probably mine, but I'm blaming Byethost, though. I'm now angry at them because it seems they have disabled my statcounter. No doubt they want me to buy a hosting plan and pay for their own statcounter.

Things seem to have been pretty stable lately? That's my impression, at least. No outages that I've encountered over the past few weeks.

Well, that's good. I am still considering switching to a new host, though, due to censorship issues. They deactivated the site once because of the use of the word "wench." Even though the spicier chapters passed the censors, they didn't like the use of "wench" in one particular chapter. But if I pay for the service, then I can use "wench" as much as I would like. It's just a money grab. I've done some more research on this host, and apparently they pull people's websites for various reasons, usually to threaten the owners into paying for a paid plan or a higher cost plan.

I'll admit I'm not the most knowledgeable about websites - how difficult would it be to switch hosts? Would you have to redo the whole site?

To switch hosts, I would have to register for an account and upload all The Circles files. It would be time consuming and quite a bit of work. I've thought about going with a paid host and even getting a special domain name for the site, but to be honest I would rather go with a free host. If something were to happen to me and I could no longer pay for the site, it would go down permanently, but if I use a free host, the site would exist as long as the hosting company stayed in business. The problem with free hosting sites is that some of them have strict terms of service and censorship filters. Also, there are not as many companies offering free hosting services as there used to be. Due to social media, there just isn't as much need for personal homepages. The internet lost a lot when Geocities folded. A company called Neocities wants to step in and fill the gap that Geocities left. I am considering creating an account there, but I'm not sure if I should create one just for The Circles, or if I should duplicate the entire Library of Minas Morgul (Second Darkness archives, Black Speech, Nazgul Information Page). Even if I do move to another host, I would keep the Byethost page as a sort of mirror site. (This was actually suggested to me by a fan of the Black Speech site, so that if something happened to one of the sites, the other would still be online.)
