What a generous liege! Considering that Sauron rarely leaves the Dark Tower between his defeat by the Last Alliance and the end of the Third Age, I've always imagined that he has his own lesser forge in Barad-dur for crafting lesser pieces when he doesn't feel like making the journey to Orodruin. How lucky the Nine are to receive gifts forged in Amon Amarth!

When I first wrote this story, I originally had Sauron working in a workshop in Barad-dur, but then I thought, why not Mount Doom instead? Although it's possible that the One Ring was the only thing he ever forged there, it's also possible that he used the forge to make other things as well. While it seems that Tolkien's dark lords tend to be homebodies, I've always wondered if Sauron ever leaves Barad-dur to go to other parts of Mordor. It is stated that the road to Mount Doom was kept clear of debris, so possibly Sauron did go to the mountain from time to time. I doubt he would let anyone else forge there. Yes, the Nine are indeed lucky to receive such generous Yule gifts.
