A lot of it seems to come from either anime or BDSM.
I can't imagine any horse of mine tolerating that kind of chamfron. They get unhappy with inocuous things, like tassels. Those would throw off the horse's balance and the manoueverability of the animal would be compromised.
As for the helmet--it's not too far off of some actual helmets. However, those have solid faces--the decoration may cover the face, but it's completely covered in such a way that there are no pokey things.

I guess the designers' theory is: "Bad guys have fetishes for sharp, spiky things." ;D

Concept Artists. ;p Hate to be a stickler for terminology. But hey, I look at it this way, I think a certain amount of hard edged metal is cool but then I'm just a sucker for it. ;D If it looks just impractical, that's when I draw the line. Or just putting spikes to put spikes. Kind of like the artwork done for Battle for Middle Earth: Rise of the Witch-King. While I still like the finished artwork, the armor design for the Witchking was just... meh. Not even the movie gave him that many spikes. :[ Incidentally, I'm working on some artwork at the moment... not necessarily all Nazgul Oriented as it's more of a Mordor's Pin up Girls ala Luis Royo style. First one does have a Ringwraith though. (This is Meli Hitchcock from deviantART by the way. I did the one image of the Mouth) However I do have one piece of art on my Desktop that is righteously awesome. It was painted by Amir Salehi. Apparently he's also a big Nazgul fan. Can't hotlink from dA, so here's a link: grimdar.deviantart.com/art/Servant-of-Death-60027315

Meli, I soo love your Mouth painting! It is really outstanding - best painting of a Tolkien character I have seen!
I am glad of the opportunity to say thanks to you.

Welcome to our merry crew, Meli! It's great to have you with us.
I am not a big fan of spikes depicted on animals. I have been a horseman for many years, and I know the downright danger of any kind of sharp things around horses or any other kind of animal - not counting the danger of impalement to the rider from an accidental toss of the horse's head. However, that is just a personal thing.
Pin up girls of Mordor? I am very familiar with Royo's art. *grins* I hope you keep us posted on this. I am already envisioning some of your artwork.
I always felt that you captured the personality of the Mouth of Sauron superbly. It was a magnificent work of art, and like Agan, I want to say thank you for sharing it on The Circles site.
Please come back and visit us soon and tell us about your latest works of art.
By the way, for those who celebrate Eid ul-Adha, Elfhild and I wish you a joyous and blessed holiday. For those of you who celebrate Christmas, may all your wishes come true and every good thing come your way.

Aganhehe thanks! To be honest, I want to revisit that piece since I've gotten better at my drawing people and painting them too. Maybe thats the critical part on my artists side. XD AngmarIt will probably be a while before I post up the pin up girls since this week is all busy with the holidays, and next week I'll be preparing for a vacation to Seattle for an artist workshop. So it might be a while. Probably another few weeks and I can post up some work. I've been re-reading some of the earlier chapters too and getting ideas for character design work too. I've got lots of ideas, just never enough time to get things done. ElfhildThank you!

Meli, I think it is your critical part speaking, indeed. . I couldn't see any flaws in the Mouth picture. I am looking forward to your new pictures of E&E, and I hope one day you will draw the Witch-King - as we have agreed in this thread that there is not a single really good picture of him . There are some decent ones with the invisible wraith, but all those where he has a face are just awful, IMO.

I absolutely loathed the stupid movie white Nazguls. At Comiccon one year somebody was giving out little portrait cards for various LOTR characters. They gave Angmar a smokin' body and the dumb zombie face. Way to ruin a dream, bozos.
